Do Not Boycott the Olympics: and not for the Olympic Athlete's sake.

Whether the liberal media* wants to believe it or not, things cost money. Since the fall of the barter and trade system, money has become the food people have to have in order to have things, peace and, yes, the Olympics. So how do the Olympics get money? Sponsorship of course. How do those sponsors get money: by advertising their goods in the hope that they will sell more products. Without large corporate sponsors, the big 12 this year, there would be NO OLYMPICS AT ALL. According to this article and the ridiculous ignorance of the boards I have read today concerning the boycott I seriously think some people want the Olympics to fall out of existence.

See, the people complaining about the Olympics are really only heard from once every 2 years. Their miserably miniscule existence blooms with the winter and summer events and they are able to spew their propaganda and sound important. Unfortunately, they are succeeding.

Take the article’s statement that boycotts and acts against the Olympics actually do work…yet Anne Applebaum doesn’t know if the Soviet boycott worked for the Soviet people. No one claims to know everything. I surely don’t, but do not make positive assumptions based on a known ignorance. Anne, you’re supposed to be a professional, better than us at expressing factually based opinions. This is why you are part of the problem.

Take the article’s statement that Germany spread its Nazi propaganda…if that is true then it only helped to end Germany’s Nazi regime because more people became aware of it, thanks to the Olympics, and more people became outraged by it. You’ll always have the idiots that fall for the propaganda, but the vast majority of people know what is right and what is wrong. Bringing China’s nature to light will only help to bring China’s bad behavior to an end. By participating in the Olympics, the US stands a better chance of educating it’s populace than boycotting, and thus hiding the truth, the event. Most people don’t care about crack heads and dealers until they are exposed to them. Look at how parents react when one of their children go missing…they go from ignoring the issue to being a huge advocate for missing children. Look at how we brought Germany down after Germany’s propaganda became more and more known.

The Olympics should be a place where we all get along. Much like a family reunion where everyone knows uncle Bob was in jail just a few months ago for torturing some small animal while smoking crack and aunt Matilda has always spread family gossip trying to destroy the family name in order to get back at drunk uncle John for cheating on her, the Olympics should about a world getting along for a short time every few years. No one likes all of their relatives (if they do, they don’t know all of their relatives or know their relatives very well), but if you are a good person you put up with them because you are civil. You don’t punish the rest of the family by missing a family event. Just because the world’s problems are on a much larger scale than your simple life, that doesn’t mean that the concept isn’t the same.

Love thy neighbor. It’s funny how all of the anti-war people are saying we should boycott the Olympics. So basically we are not only supposed to get involved, we are supposed to ignore the problem as well. How about taking this opportunity to enter the front door, make nice and start making changes. It’s a tiny step in a large forum. Don’t punish the entire family (Olympics) simply because Uncle John can’t hold his liquor or keep his vows. The world’s problems are way worse than this, but in the grand scheme of things they have been even worse. Work to make them better, take advantage of every forum you can do so.

Way down here at the bottom of the articles I’d like to point out the hypocrisy of Slates’ articles and the whole money argument. See those free credit reports being offered by companies? They are rip-offs. You can get a free credit report from all of the credit agencies once a year. You also have other rights that can get you the rest of the services they offer for free. Slate is getting paid to advertise for them. Everything costs money.

*This isn’t a right wing conspiracy statement. It is indisputable that there are tons and tons of media outlets that produce a biased view. This includes Fox and talk radio (to which I will gladly refer to the conservative media when I reference them). I’m not a news agency. I am supposed to give my opinions. Once you state an opinion, anyone can bash you for it. I get called a neo-con and a raging liberal all the time. I just brush it off and most people do not even know what those labels are. It says that the drug companies are ripping people off by giving them free samples…all based on the study and goes on and on about how pharmaceuticals are ripping off the public…yet in the middle of the article is this statement.

Exactly why the costs rose wasn’t clear, said Alexander, who added that the study wasn’t designed to answer that question.

Really? How about putting that at the beginning of the article. The study is useless and meaningless.
