One Reason Why Great Civilizations/Countries Fall.

Permalink 04/01/03 01:47, by admin, Categories: Articles

Let me start this article with a quick observation...I don't think the majority of the public and definitely not the military or the people in charge of the military believe that war is anything less than war.

...

With that stated, let's get started.

I don't know exactly where I have heard the comment but I do know that I have heard it many, many, many times from many different people, groups, medias and I have heard it so much that I think I may actually break my hit record (the number of people that actually go to this webpage for a long enough period of time to read the article) by writing about it.

"It", as I have referred to "it", is the concept that Iraq's military is not fighting fairly. They dress their soldiers up in non-military uniforms and fight, they act like they are surrendering and start to fight at the last moment, they drive suicide bombers into check points, they kill their own people if those people try to defect, they torture POWs (female or not)...the thought that seems to follow these observations is "this isn't fair."

Let's look at history for a moment. Where have we heard "this isn't fair?" Where have we seen tactics such as hiding in the brush instead of standing out in plain view, focused efforts to killing officers before killing other troop?. Where have we seen battles being started during "tea time" and at night and generals leading their troops across frozen rivers at night.

I hate war. I mean, I really hate war. I know I could handle it but I would never willing subject myself to being at war. I'm very satisfied in knowing that there are people in this country that will subject themselves to war for the greater good. I do wish that humans were "humane" in the sense that we want humane to mean. The problem is the United States simply wouldn't be the United States if we didn't fight the war in a way that would help us win. Pull out a history book and you'll find a group of scrappy American want-to-be's that out-smarted and out-fought the most powerful military of their time and all that powerful military could say was "this isn't fair".

Let's get one thing straight here. War is war. Sure it helps to have the "Geneva Conventions" and the treaties and agreements that come from them but when we (citizens of the United States) are backed into a corner, when our way of life is threatened to the point that our way of life will be taken from us if we lose a war would you still go by the treaties? Would you? Maybe you would but it would be in the belief that whatever was to come would be better than what we have and that, my fellow citizen, is going to be hard to find.

We have backed Iraq into a corner. Not only that, we have done it openly with 12 years of diplomacy, a quick wake-up call to try to persuade them in the early 90's and plenty of warning and time for them to prepare against us in the current war. Saddam knows he is going down. He is going to pull out every single trick in the book to try to keep that from happening.

So let's take a look at the situation again. The U.S. has lost less than 50 troops at this point, a few are POWs and a few are missing. The British have also lost less than 50 troops. According today's online articles we have about 8,000 POWs and we have wiped out entire regimes of Iraqi troops.

Iraq isn't fighting fair...but honestly, if they were fighting fair we would have suffered less than half of the already nil-to-none casualties that we have suffered so far. Expecting Iraq's regime to lay-down and give up is ridiculous. Expecting human beings to stay "humane" when there is no benefit to being "humane" and when being "humane" means losing is asinine. This isn't a quick game of croquet where the loser has to buy the winner a cup of tea. This is war and war brings death and destruction before it can bring its benefits. Both sides will win in this war and maybe that unbalance of right and wrong, winning and losing is what makes war bring so much pain before it can bring relief.

Before you start talking about who is playing fair you (and that means every citizen of the United States because if you don't like being a citizen no one is forcing you to be one) need to remember where you came from. Whether you immigrated here or have roots back to the soldiers themselves, remember that many people have laid down their lives in ways that, at the time, were considered "unfair" to allow for your citizenship today. If this "unfair" view ever finds its way into our leadership, into our military, into our culture and ideas the great United States of America will fall too; and that's no April Fool's.

My Pledge As you may notice in the many articles to come, I absolutely can not stand people that have an opinion about something they know very little about or didn't take the time to research before giving their opinion. I pledge that I will not write a single article about a subject that I don't know enough about to see several sides of the issue. If you think I am missing something, I'd love to be the first to know about it. Other Stuff The opinions expressed in these articles are for discussion purposes only and do not, in anyway, reflect the opinions, voting practices or ideas of Findawish.com, its parent company, its employees and/or their families/friends or its affiliates. Public input is welcome but no response is guaranteed. I am often asked why I don't write a new article every single day. The short answer is that I don't have that much to say. I have quite a few articles that will never be posted because I either feel that I don't know enough about the subject or that I can't defend my stance well enough to allow it to be criticized or critiqued by the general public. If you really want to know how I feel about these articles you should read the source section of my rules to live by articles.
